Technology

TECHNOLOGY

TECHNOLOGY:  The branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment. A scientific or industrial process, invention, method or the like.

Okay, so you all know I drive a pretty expensive car (2010) that comes with all the bells and whistles right?  And, they are supposed to be in working order, at least one would think.  So, the other morning I get into my car and head off to Santa Monica for my first audition, yay!!  As I’m driving I click on the Navigation button in my car to put in the address..GASP!!!  It doesn’t work! Oh no, now what do I do?  Well, thank goodness I have my handy dandy iPad available and my cool phone, yay!! Well, the only problem with those is that they don’t tell me if there’s an accident, construction or stopped traffic. UGH!  Can you say spoiled..lol

NAVIGATION:  The art or science of plotting, ascertaining, or directing the course.
Well, I put the address in both of them (just in case, sometimes they get confused) and lo and behold two hours later I arrive at my destination. (Darn traffic) Now, after my first audition I get back into my car and put the next audition location into my iPad (cuz my phone is almost out of battery) and off I go.  Well, I obey the iPad, even though I know it’s not leading me in the right direction and guess what?  I end up at the beach. (Told ya so) I mean, I know it’s a beautiful day and perhaps the little machine wanted to bask in the sun, but that wasn’t on my agenda.  Even though I certainly had enough time for that since my next audition wasn’t until 4:50 pm in West Hollywood. So, I stopped to get gas for my little gas guzzler (just put in $20 bucks the day before) and reprogram the iPad (now we’re talkin) and off I go (again).
I get five miles down the road and my iPad says it’s only got 5% left on the battery, oh well no biggie, my car has a hook up for an ipad.  GASP!! It says, NOT CHARGING….WHAT????  What do you mean not charging???? Okay, well I’ve got it, I have my charging adapter for the lighter so I’ll just plug it in, whew! WHAT???  NOT CHARGING?? You’ve got to be kidding me??

CHARGER:  An apparatus that charges storage batteries.
So, by this time my phone is charged a little so I pull over and put the address in my phone.  (Thank goodness I’ve got both little machines, whew) GASP!! Two miles down the road it tells me my GPS was lost.  WHAT??  I’m on Santa Monica Blvd. and I have Verizon, I mean come on now.  Well, I click on the Nav sign to refresh it and it asks me if I want to show my location..well of course I do..duh!  So I click on OK and it takes me to settings..really?  I go through this little episode 4 times until I get soo frustrated I shut the darn thing down.  I waited a minute and turned it back on and yay, a miracle it worked.  Sooo, I pull over again and put the address in (again).
Well, I remember my iPad telling me to make a U-turn at Hancock Park but it never came and I know Hollywood pretty well.  All of sudden my phone says make a right (Then it pauses)then it says make a left..okay, so which is it??? I’m in the left hand lane so I decide to turn left.  OMG! I went around in circles for 15 minutes.. (I told you the GPS doesn’t get it sometimes).  So, I turn back on my iPad, praying that it has some life left in it and it tells me that my destination is 1.5 miles back the other way.  What satellite are those things getting there info from?? UGH!!  Okay, so I finally find the darn place (Or so I thought).  I park and get my lunch out, a can of chicken, pork rinds, and crystal light.  I’m not much of fast food person. I pull out my can opener and start to open the can..are you flippin kidding me?  The can opener doesn’t work. Well, at least I have my pork rinds and crystal light.
Soo, now it’s 1:54 pm and I have to go to the bathroom.  Ugh. I remember my last ordeal, not so pretty, so I think I’ll just pee in a cup..lol  (not really)  So now what do I do?  I’ve got 2 hours and 56 minutes to go.  Well, I guess I’ll check, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and my 2 email accounts.. DONE and I have to pee like a race horse.  Alright, so I sucked it up and went to McDonalds, whew!
Now, I’m off to find the REAL location of the audition driving around and around AGAIN. There is no such address and no phone number.. really??  Finally I decide to check it out on Google and they forgot to add the first number to the address.  No wonder why my navigation was taking me around and around like the Tea Cups at Disneyland.  Don’t you think they would want people to show up and don’t you think they’d know their own address?  Sooo, I pull over AGAIN to put the CORRECT address in my phone and this crazy girl has a U-Haul van with a Handicap sign (she doesn’t look handicap to me) filled with barking dogs. This guy comes out of nowhere with his dog and they start fighting. He actually spits in her face and says, “Don’t you do it #@%*, I’m going to call the cops on you”.  Then he tries to get me involved in it, as if I didn’t have enough problems for today. I’m just an innocent bystander.  OMG!  I need a drink!
Alright, so I’ve actually found the place now and it’s only 3:49 pm. I’ve smoked enough cigarettes, drank a huge diet coke (time to go to the bathroom again) checked all the social media I can, do I go in early or tough it out.  I decided to wait until 4:30 pm and head on in, hittin the bathroom first thing!  I sign in, fill out the appropriate paperwork and patiently wait for my turn.

I absolutely loved the Casting Director, she was amazing!!

Soooo, guess what??????  I GOT THE PART!! The whole day was worth all that stuff just to hear those words. God is good!

Oh and you’ll be happy to know, I hit the bathroom before that long trek home..lol

Love Never Fails

Love Never Fails

As the new year begins, I look back at all the things that happened in 2012, good and bad and I reflect on my accomplishments and disappointments. I realize that I have learned many lessons.  One very important lesson is to be grateful for all that God has given to me.

I believe this past year has been tough on most of us and so many of us wallow in our struggles and disappointments instead of learning from them and moving on.  We need to create a “New Us” for a “New Year”.  I know it may be easier said than done, but if we just take one day at a time, forgiving ourselves for our mistakes and turn our sufferings into creativity, we would all be better off.  We need to try to not focus on the problem or mistake and accept the fact that we are only human and life happens.  I, nor anyone else is “Perfect”,  we all have different habits, beliefs, and opinions.  If we could all learn to accept people as they are, imagine what a beautiful place this world would be.

We should try to find the goodness in all things and rise above all the hatred in the world.  There will always be haters but we don’t have to be like them.   If we wish for peace, we must start with ourselves and show it with our actions.  When we give of ourselves it is in that, that we truly show our love for one another.

This life is so rushed.  Days become weeks, weeks become months and before you know it, the year is gone.  I live in a cul-de-sac and I haven't seen most of neighbors for over a year.  My friends tell me, “Oh are you too busy for us?”.  My son is turning 17 this month and will be driving soon, then he will go off to college and then he will eventually get married and have children of his own.  It seems as if it was just yesterday he was born.  We are always in a hurry and forget about the things that are most important in our lives..  I have lost friends and family this past year and it makes me realize even more that we never know when our time is up so we can’t let life pass us by!

We need to let go of the negativity and jealousies and focus on the love, family and friends that God has given us at the present moment.  We need to appreciate each day as it comes and learn from our mistakes and move on.  We also need to find our inner peace and then share it with the world starting with one smile at a time, one hug, one thank you, one forgiveness.  As the Bible says, “Let thee without sin cast the first stone”.  We are to show kindness to everyone by loving our neighbors as ourselves with a spirit of gentleness.
So, as the new year begins, I will leave you with this:  First Corinthians 13:4-8:
“LOVE IS PATIENT, LOVE IS KIND, AND IS NOT JEALOUS.  LOVE DOES NOT BRAG AND IS NOT ARROGANT, DOES NOT ACT UNBECOMINGLY.  IT DOES NOT SEEK ITS OWN , IT IS NOT PROVOKED, DOES NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT A WRONG SUFFERED, DOES NOT REJOICE IN UNRIGHTOUSNESS,  BUT REJOICES WITH TRUTH; BEARS ALL THINGS, BELIEVES ALL THINGS, HOPES ALL THINGS,
ENDURES ALL THINGS.

LOVE NEVER FAILS

Stupid Drivers

Okay, I had to write about this one after talking with my fellow actors before class last week. I think this is something we can all relate to, actors or not.

STUPID DRIVERS

I am on the road constantly as an actress and mother and the amount of stupid drivers is just amazing to me.

Let's just start by driving down my street. Now, if you drive a motorcycle, wouldn't you be more concious of your surroundings so as not to get into an accident? Then why would you not put your directional on to let me know your are going to stop and worst of all, make a U turn right in front of me as I come a 1/4 inch from making you meet your maker? Then we have the people who back out of their driveways and don't look to see if there's anyone else coming...I mean do they think they're the only one's who live on my street? Now, here's the best one (and I haven't even gotten off my street yet). I get to the end of the my culdesac, wanting to turn left onto the main road and there's a van in front of me wanting to do the same thing (or so I thought). All of a sudden, she starts to back up. I think okay, maybe she just pulled to far out in the road and she needs to back up a little..OOOOOOHHHH NOOOOOO, she keeps a comin'. I lay on my horn (something I don't like to do because what good does it do anyway?) and she finally stops about a 1/2 an inch from hitting me. She said she didn't look! Okay now, why wouldn't you look? Once again, are you the only person who lives on my street? OMG!

Finally I'm on the road on the way to the freeway headed to LA obeying all traffic laws (most of the time, hard to do with my car) and these people wait until you're right up on them and pull out in front of you and go 2 miles per hour causing you to swerve and slam on your brakes so you don't hit them! Really??? Why don't people put on their turn signal when they want to turn left..can't they see your waiting for them to go straight before you pull out? And why do people stop at green lights? Are they color blind? And what about when the sign says, "NO TURN ON RED LIGHT", why the heck do they lay on their horns and get soooo mad at me for obeying the darn traffic sign? Can't they read? Which brings me to my next subject.

We all know how they drive in other countries, making left hand turns from right hand lanes, driving 500 miles an hour on the Autoban not to mention cutting across 5 lanes of traffic just to make the exit (okay, so they do that here too). And forget about the traffic lights, stops signs and other drivers. And pedestrians BEWARE, you're taking your life in your hands if you think you come first. They will even drive on the wrong side of the road just to make the traffic light.

Well, we have laws here in the U.S. (not that anyone follows them..lol) like myself. I got a ticket last month for turning left out of no turn left parking lot..well there was no one coming..only the police officer that was hiding and everyone else does it, so why am I the one who got the ticket? I think we should enforce a Behind The Wheel training course for all people coming into this country, not just the written, before they get their drivers license. Speaking of the written, why is it in sooo many different languages??? Aren't we in the U.S where all signs are posted in English? (Well, I guess not anymore, in some cities I get lost..lol)

So, now I've finally made it to the freeway! Trying to get on the freeway is an adventure in itself, people just don't know how to merge. And who says you have to wait in line like everyone else to merge onto the next freeway, that's what the shoulder is for to take cuts. UGH! Why do people pull right out in front of you when they see you're coming up on them really fast and then go 5 miles an hour almost causing an accident? Do they think they're the only one's on the road? What about the people who do 50 miles an hour in the fast lane and a zillion people are zooming by them in the next lane..what are they thinking..even the speed limit in most places is 65. Why do people pull right out in front of trucks and then put their brakes on? Do they think the the truck can just automatically stop and not turn them into minced meat? And while I'm on the subject of trucks..what makes the truck drivers think I actually like the fowl language that comes out of their mouth, trying to pick me up while driving in traffic. Really men, learn the love language, okay? Not that I'm someone special, but come on.

What about the carpool lane. They make those double yellow lines for a reason gang! And I don't think children should get their license until they're at least 21. The amount of stupid kids on the freeway, especially at night is amazing...racing their little cars and trying to tempt me to race them...come on..against my car? And why do people leave their blinker on for miles and you're kind enough to let them in, holding up traffic so the person behind you honks...turn it off for goodness sake if you don't want to merge. Or better yet...I hate when "I" put my directional on miles before I have to get off the freeway and no one lets me in causing me to miss my exit??? WHY? Or what about when someone has their right hand turn signal on and they turn left...really? And why do people tailgate in traffic, we're not havin' a party!?! I mean can't you see we are not going anywhere. This guy honked at me last week because I didn't jump on the fact that the traffic had moved one car length..Guess he was in hurry to wait! And speaking of traffic, why do the drivers on my side stop to see an accident on the other side of the freeway, you can't fix it!

And last but not least! TEXTING, PUTTING ON MAKEUP, ( something I never do...lol) SHAVING, WATCHING MOVIES, etc., and the lookie loos who are driving by you trying to figure out what movie you are watching...why does it matter?

Some people just shouldn't get their license.
